PIA’s Online Comprehensive Pilates Mat Teacher Certification is for the serious Pilates mat instructor looking for a college level, exercise science-based Pilates instructor education.  Everything you need is included in one course!  Your 65 hour Online Pilates Mat Teacher Certification is a combination of the lecture hours of our Mat 101 and Mat 102 courses, with observation and self-practice to help you develop critical skills needed to design and teach creative, safe Pilates mat classes. Our curriculum includes the applied anatomy and biomechanics for each Pilates mat exercise, and provides a thorough examination of classical versus contemporary Pilates styles. Additionally, you will receive personal guidance and feedback from a Master Instructor. 

IMPORTANT NOTE – Our goal is to provide you the highest quality Online Pilates Mat Certification, and to set you up for a successful career teaching Pilates.  In order to accomplish this, we have a few pre-requisites and require customers to be pre-approved for this course. The pre-requisites are: Knowledge of Pilates movements and /or experience as a group fitness, dance or yoga instructor, and a basic understanding of anatomy.  All customers must be pre-approved prior to purchasing this course. All customers must be at least 18 years old.

**If you live in an area where there are no other Pilates instructors to observe or take classes, you can use these 10 classes to meet this requirement.  If you have access to other Pilates classes in your area, you are welcome to log those hours as well.

Q – Will this certification course prepare me to teach Pilates mat classes?

A - YES!  Our course provides everything you need to teach safe, effective and fun Pilates mat classes to a variety of participants of varying skill. 

Q – I don’t live near a Pilates studio.  How can I get my self-practice and observation hours?

A - The course includes 10 pre-recorded Pilates mat classes ranging from beginning level to advanced.  You can watch these courses and take notes using our Observation Notes sheet to meet the observation requirement.  You can participate in the instructor led work out for the self-practice requirement. 

Q - How long does it take to complete the Online Pilates Mat Teacher Certification?

A - You can take up to one year to complete the Online Pilates Mat Teacher Certification, however most people find they can complete the entire course within 3 - 4 months.

Q - Why do I need to be pre-approved for this course?

Q - If I don't meet the minimum prerequisites does that mean I can't take the Online Pilates Teacher Certification?

A - Not necessarily.  If you don't meet some or any of the prerequisites, we can provide additional support.  Our goal is to provide the highest quality Online Pilates Teacher Certification, and prepare our customers for successful careers teaching Pilates!

Q - Is this course an NPCP (formerly PMA) Certification?

A - NO. The Pilates Method Alliance does not train instructors to teach, nor does the National Pilates Certification Program (NPCP).  You must be comprehensively trained on all Pilates equipment to qualify to sit for  the NPCP-CPT exam.  The NPCP does not recognize mat-only Pilates certifications.
